Grunge

In a previous post I outlined this Winter’s fashion trends that were of a more feminine nature; pink, pleats and puffed-out hemlines. In this post, I want to dissect some of the key themes to emerge from a trend sitting on the opposite side of the fashion spectrum – grunge. I shed some light on how you can embrace the dark side without looking like a teenage dirtbag.

Plaid Fad
Whether you call it plaid, tartan, check or flannel, this print has made its resurgence from the 90s and is firmly trending on the current fashion scene. Let your plaid make a statement by keeping the rest of your outfit subdued. For example, a plaid button down opened with a graphic tee underneath, paired with skinny jeans and ankle boots makes for a great casual look. Bomber Jacket Bombshell
The bomber jacket is having a fashion moment right now. It was a key piece to emerge from the sports luxe trend a few seasons back and it’s now proving to have a longer shelf life than what was expected. Oversized or lightweight, silky smooth or embellished; their variations seem infinite. Avoid appearing too masculine by keeping the rest of your outfit snug or by sporting a bomber shaded a pretty pastel hue. Have a look at how celebs are wearing theirs here.

Leather Love
The leather look is still going strong. It has been at the forefront of fashion like never before and we just can’t seem to get enough. My biggest rule when it comes to leather is faux is the way to go. Otherwise, have fun with it! When worn correctly it is even appropriate for the office ladies, I promise. The leather trend inspired one of my first blog posts, have a looksee here.

  1. Love how you write about fashion! I still need to wear the leather skirt you gave me for my birthday - might have to get myself a plaid shirt and then wear it with stockings and ankle boots at work :)
